The Story of Our Store Mural

​In the Summer of 2022, the mural Friends on a Shelf was installed creating an inviting and eye-catching entry to the bookstore. The mural was a community project with the bookstore asking community members what they would like to see on the front of the bookstore. Suggestions were
received and an artist identified, Lucas Nickerson. To pay for the mural, community members could put a title on a book for $100. Enough titles were gathered, and the mural was created. The name “Friends on a Shelf” was created by Quinn Nickerson. It is what she called her books during the Covid shutdown. Quinn, with the assistance of her Dada, wrote the poem and dedicated it to the mural.

Are found on the shelves of your favorite bookcase.
My world is expanding the more that I learn,
My eyes become wide with every page that I turn.
Enchanted forests and bubbling brooks,
Adventure awaits inside of your books.
At the end of the day, when you want to unwind,
Go to your shelf and a book you will find,
To inspire and spark new ideas that take seed.
Creative energy flowing after every book that you read.
There’s no better friends to find for yourself,
Than the books you pull down from a shelf.
